What happens if I suck 10x more
There is an interesting article in Trizle telling you how to stop nervousness. Here are the two simple suggestions:
- Notice how much you suck right now.
- Imagine what would happen if you sucked 10x more.
Well, I don’t know if it works for everyone but it definitely works for me. Typically when I screw up something, I would be rather depressed and keeping thinking about how good I could have been. This looks positive at your first glance, but NO! From some psychological view, people tend to set unrealistic goals. Then, keeping thinking "I should" is somehow like criticizing myself why I cannot save the world.
The good news is, I don’t really need to save the world. By thinking about how bad things could be, I get released. It also helps me to take risks to save at least part of the world. See? It is not as negative as you would have thought. It is a good positive practice to image that you sucked 10x more.
