Ultima proles est de duro ferro. Pudor fidesque fugiut. Subeunt fraudesque insidiaeque et amor habendi. Longo limite mensor signat humum. Effodiuntur opes, irritamenta malorum. Nocens ferrum ferroque nocentius aurum prodeunt. Prodit bellum, quod pugnat utroque. Vivitur ex rapto. Victa iacet petas. Virgo Astraea, ultima caelestum, relinquit terras.
——–
The last race is made of unyielding iron. Decency and good faith go into exile. In their place come deception and plotting and a love of gain. A surveyor marks out the ground with a long boundary line. Riches (the incitements to evil) are dug up out of the ground. Hurtful iron and gold, more harmful than iron, come forth. War comes forth, which uses both of them to fight. People live on plunder. Piety lies vanquished. The maiden Astraea, the last of the heavenly ones, abandons the earth.
——–
